A possie in Aussie

Who’s Nayano?

Nayano I was born in Australia. Like all Australians, my ancestors came from ‘overseas’, in my case one side from England in the late 1800s, and the other side, some rather dour Silesian ‘refugees’ from religious persecution in the early 1800s. I’m lucky – Australia is the most sought-after destination for migration in the world.

I work with migrants – at the moment refugees and workers on temporary skilled migration visas. I am also finishing a PhD thesis on integration of refugees on Temporary Protection Visas (that are no longer with us – thanks Rudd and Evans!).

I also like to have fun

This blog is for all things relating to migration, settlement, visas and citizenship in Australia – and often relevant to other ‘immigration nations’.

  1. Hi Nayano!

Thanks for your post. We do seem to share quite some interests! I just browsed over your entries and added you to my feeds. Refreshing to know that there are people out there engaged in the same issues. I’m looking forward to reading more from you.

Keep it up, and good luck with your PhD!

  2. Hi Nayono,
Thought you might be interested in this. Someone is auctioning off the chance to become an honorary black person on Ebay. The winner gets a certificate with an Al Sharpton picture and a “guide to being black.” This mess is hilarious, but I know some people might be offended. Here’s the link to the blog I saw it on: http://www.imperfectenjoyment.com/blog/?p=391

It’s also on Ebay. Keep up the good work with the blog.

  3. Hi, Nayono

Thanks for referring my blog… I hope to keep it updated too. I think your blog is really cool… what a nice way to actually state the way refugees really feel in Aussie.

  4. Hi Nayano,

It sounds that Refugees and Asylum seekers are used as a political tools by our politicians. and it is so unfotunate that our government is also acting like the previous government and turning their backs to the people who are forced to leave their country and come to Australia in search of humanity.

    • Hi Younus
      Thanks for the comment!
I am very disappointed in Rudd. He’s not following his values. His hero is Friedrich Bonhoeffer – who was a champion of Jewish refugees in Hitler’s Germany. Rudd is playing to what he thinks the electorate wants – but I think he’s wrong.
